Juniper to double technical staff in India

Juniper Networks plans to double the number of its technical staff in India by the end of next year.

Juniper Networks announced Wednesday that it is doubling the number of technical staff at its center in Bangalore, India.

The company plans to increase the number of technical staff at the center from 325 currently to 650 by the end of next year, Sridhar Sarathy, managing director of Juniper's Indian operations told reporters Wednesday. These staff will include software and hardware engineers, test engineers, and technical support staff.

The center works on software and hardware development, system test, technical documentation, and technical assistance to customers, Sarathy said.

Juniper opened a new facility in Bangalore on Wednesday, combining three offices at different locations in the city. The company has invested US$8.5 million in the facility, Sarathy said.

The center in Bangalore is also moving to full ownership of product lines, that includes working with product management on product definition, end-to-end development, test, and technical support, said Sam Srinivas, Juniper's chief technologist for India. The center is already responsible for a number of Juniper's products including some in its J-series line of enterprise routers.

The new role of the Bangalore center is in line with Juniper's strategy worldwide to make its product development centers self-sufficient, Srinivas said. The company has 3,000 development staff at development centers in the U.S., Israel, China, and Canada, besides India, Srinivas added.

Although India's forte is in software, the company also has hardware design teams in India. "It is more efficient to have all teams including the test people at the same location," Srinivas said.
