Apple iOS 4.3.4 security fix jailbroken overnight

Apple’s iOS 4.3.4 PDF vulnerability fix issued Friday didn’t stymie jailbreakers for long -- a beta jailbreak tool for the mobile software update was released on Saturday

Apple’s iOS 4.3.4 PDF vulnerability fix issued Friday didn’t stymie jailbreakers for long -- a beta jailbreak tool for the mobile software update was released on Saturday.

However, the iPhone Dev Team warned that most jailbreakers should just stick with iOS 4.3.3 instead of rushing to use the latest jailbreak tool. The iPhone Dev Team’s MuscleNerd tweeted: “redsn0w b3 http://is.gd/6eek4Y is a *tethered* 4.3.4 JB for kernel hackers only (see #3). Most should stay back at 4.3.3!”

In other words, you’ll lose your iPhone hack if you boot up your device without having it tethered to a computer.

MORE APPLE: Inside iOS 5.0

In issuing the iOS 4.3.4 software update on Friday, Apple said that the security flaws could have resulted in “an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution” and “malicious code running as the user to gain system privileges.”

SlashGear and other Apple watchers warned that Apple looks to be making life more difficult in general for those who want to jailbreak, or mess around with the insides of their iPhones and other mobile Apple devices: “[T]he road ahead for iOS jailbreakers looks to be trickier than ever. iOS 4.3.4 reportedly also closed off [two] other loopholes hackers had been using for untethered solutions – an integer overflow-related bug and an incomplete code signing issue. Meanwhile, iOS 5 will reportedly block firmware downgrades using a new signing system.”

EverythingiCafe’s Tim Barribeau comments that he suspects even if the jailbreaking community comes up with an untethered jailbreak it might be best off holding out at this point until iOS 5 comes along in the fall.
