Spotify woos iPhone, iPad developers with iOS tool

Spotify, the much buzzed about digital music streaming service that made its U.S. debut in July is looking to extend its reach even further by releasing a tool for Apple iOS developers.

"We hope this will enable a new category of iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch applications with Spotify inside and allow for more immersive music experiences within iOS apps," writes Sten Garmarck, Spotify director of platform, in a blog post Wednesday.

Spotify already works on Apple devices such as the iPhone.

Spotify, which made its mark first in Europe, initially released libspotify for Linux developers in 2009.

Spotify reportedly closed a $100 million funding round last month which gave it a valuation of about $1 billion.
