New engine to power Xangati's performance monitoring product

The latest version of Cupertino-based Xangati's virtual dashboard product will boast a new performance management engine and the ability to work with eight instances of VMware vCenter, instead of just one.

HERE COME THE ADD-ONS: Network add-ons are all the rage

According to the company's vice president of marketing and business development, David Messina, Xangati Management Dashboard's in-memory technology and agent-free monitoring techniques allow it to provide nearly instantaneous performance data while maintaining a small footprint.

"The idea of scaling up without losing the resolution that we have is a big part of what we've done with this release," he says.

This expansion in XMD's abilities should make it better able to work with both major enterprise private clouds and some moderately sized public ones, though the amount of diagnostic information available in the latter case will depend heavily on what the cloud service provider chooses to reveal.

While the product currently only works with VMware technology on the server virtualization end, Messina says Xangati will be working to adapt it for use with Hyper-V in the second half of 2012. XMD already works with both VMware and Citrix products for the virtual desktop.

According to Messina, the server virtualization edition of the product will be available for $150 per socket. While he did not provide an exact figure for the updated VDI version, he did confirm that it would be priced on a per-seat basis.

Changing network architectures and the growing prevalence of virtualization are among the many factors creating a growing wave of monitoring and management products aimed at helping IT workers make sense of an increasingly chaotic environment. Offerings like Xangati's are potentially a key part of the future IT landscape.
