O2 has confirmed that it has complied with a high court order to block access to filesharing website The Pirate Bay.
It follows internet service providers Sky Broadband, Virgin Media and Everything Everywhere, which have blocked access to the site after high court judge Mr Justice Arnold made the order in April, on the basis that it "infringes copyright on a massive scale"by providing magnet links to movies, music and other media content.
"The main UK internet providers were ordered by the high court to block access to specific IP address and URLs used by The Pirate Bay website. We have no option but to comply with this sorder and did so last night," an O2 spokesperson said.
Customers of O2 subsidiary Be Broadband will also be blocked from the site.
TalkTalk is the last ISP ordered to block The Pirate Bay before the 1 June deadline.
BT, which asked for extra time to make the necessary arrangements with regards to The Pirate Bay, said: "We anticipate that an order, regarding the precise means of blocking, will be made shortly."
Separately, O2 has recently announced plans to partner with Vodafone on rolling out 4G.
