Tech jobs rank high in govt report

Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment rates ICT business analysts and software developers top for job prospects

Business analysts and software developers are among the occupations with the greatest job prospects, according to a report by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

The Occupation Outlook report rates 40 common jobs according to income, training fees and job prospects. The report is designed to provide information for students and their parents when choosing a career. There is a two-page summary about what the job is about, what training is required, estimated income and current job prospects.

"There has been a shortage of readily available demand-side information on the short-to-medium term outlook for occupations in New Zealand," says Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Minister Steven Joyce.

Business analysts and software developers, as the table shows, rate well for job prospects:

The estimated average income for ICT business support is $76,700 per annum, software developers $76,700 and telecommunications analysts $49,300.
