Planning has commenced for fixed wireless access to the National Broadband Network (NBN) in some areas of Gympie and the Sunshine Coast.
NBN Co announced in June last year that planning had started for more than 20,000 premises in south west Queensland to connect to the NBN via fixed wireless.
Fourteen council areas were to be switched on to the NBN from mid-2013, including Gympie Regional Council.
Premises in the outer part of the Gympie Regional Council area will begin switching on from mid-2013.
However, sites closer to the Gympie Regional Council area and the Sunshine Coast Regional Council area will be switched on from late 2014.
