Some BigPond customers suffer an email outage due to faulty switch

Telstra resets switch at Kent St exchange

Telstra is “working flat out” to fix an email outage for BigPond customers caused by a problem with switching equipment at its Kent St exchange in Sydney.

“We’ve got a crew of technicians working on an issue with switching equipment at one of our exchanges which is affecting email for some of our BigPond customers,” a Telstra spokesman told Computerworld Australia.

“The fault is also affecting some of our other online services including Telstra My Account.”

Some users even experienced difficulty getting to the BigPond network status page, which displayed a “502 Proxy Error” offering the reason, “error reading from remote server."

“The switch involved has been reset and we are doing everything they can to restore connectivity for those affected customers,” the Telstra spokesman said.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and our team is working flat out to fix it as quickly as humanly possible.”
