Qualcomm and Kaspersky sign mobile protection deal for Android devices

Snapdragon-enabled mobile devices will come preloaded with Kaspersky Security

Qualcomm has signed a mobile device security deal with Kaspersky Lab to load its security software onto Android devices powered by Snapdragon processors.

Kaspersky is offering special terms for preloading Kaspersky Mobile Security and Kaspersky Tablet Security software onto the Android gadgets. Kaspersky will be offering these terms to a wide range of customers, who are manufacturing or having manufactured on their behalf Snapdragon-enabled mobile devices or tablets running on Android.

With PC sales dropping as consumers and businesses move to wider connectivity using smartphones and tablets, hackers are increasingly targeting operating systems used on mobile devices, including Android, Windows 8 and iOS on Apple devices. Therefore security software firms are rushing to offer protection in the mobile space.

To date Qualcomm Snapdragon processors are said to be in more than 770 commercially available or announced products, with another 550 product designs said to be in the pipeline, from over 70 device customers.

Kaspersky Lab says it already has more than 80 global partner and technology agreements with companies including Microsoft, IBM, Cisco, Juniper Networks, Alcatel Lucent, Blue Coat, Check Point, D-Link, and Lenovo.

Eugene Kaspersky, CEO Kaspersky Lab, said, "We have a solid number of global companies we work with, and Qualcomm will be one of the most important among them. We are looking forward to providing solutions to a wide range of device manufacturers, who are designing and/or building Snapdragon-enabled mobile devices or tablets running on Android."
