More NBN training hubs launched in Adelaide

Up to 44 communities around Australia have received funding under the Digital Hub and Enterprise program

Seven new digital hubs which promote the benefits of the National Broadband Network (NBN) have been launched in Adelaide.

The Federal Government has provided $1.4 million in funding to establish the digital hubs in Charles Sturt, the Adelaide Hills, Modbury and Salisbury.

It has also provided $592,000 for the Digital Enterprise program in the Adelaide Hills, Modbury and Salisbury.

The $15.2 million Digital Hub and Enterprise programs will help Adelaide residents improve their digital skills and will also train businesses and for-for-profit organisations on how to use the NBN to help their business.

A training centre in Adelaide has already been launched as part the Digital Hubs and Enterprise program, with the government providing $639,300 to Adelaide City Council for the centre.

Up to 44 communities around Australia have received funding under the Digital Hub and Enterprise program.

The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, has also announced $5 million in funding to develop Digital Business Kits to help small to medium sized enterprises use the NBN.

The business kits will be sector-specific, with 10 industry bodies given $500,000 in funding each to develop and roll out the kits.

Industries set to receive funding for the kits include building, farming, manufacturing, restaurants and cafes.

The kits are expected to include tutorials and case studies on connecting to the NBN and how it can be used to support cloud computing and open up access to new markets.

“The digital economy offers tremendous opportunities to all Australians, particularly small businesses,” Conroy said.

“Businesses that integrate a wide range of online tools into their day-to-day activities will start seeing increased productivity and cost efficiencies.”

Industry bodies have until 29 May, 2013 to provide comments on draft funding guidelines.
