Toyota Financial Services boosts network security

Toyota is using an intrusion prevention system from Palo Alto Networks

UK-based Toyota Financial Services has deployed a new network security system to protect its European financial services division.

Toyota is using an intrusion prevention system from Palo Alto Networks which consists of a firewall along with the cloud-based WildFire threat portal. This combination allows the company to detect malware outside the network perimeter and decrypt all SSL traffic at speeds of up to 10Gbps.

Toyota said it can now safely view and destroy malware threats before they reach its network, improving the security of the company's sensitive financial documents.

Palo Alto Networks brought in IT consultancy Synetix Solutions to install the PA-5050 and PA-3020 firewalls across two UK sites in Burgh Heath and Salfords, which employ a total of 1,300 users.

The new system allows the company to analyse application usage across the enterprise and write new security policies based on this intelligence, while also "right-sizing" its network bandwidth to provide optimum performance levels and accommodate future growth.

Robert Spiteri, security and network team leader at Toyota Financial Services, said: "With malware constantly evolving the risk of a potential security breach is ever present, and we are not prepared to take chances with our company data.

"Through Palo Alto Networks we're getting a far better insight into how our network is running. This means our IT team can sleep easier and our infrastructure is running smarter, without affecting the user's experience whatsoever."
