Rakon named company of the decade

2011 Hi-Tech Awards winners announced.

Rakon took out the top award at the 2011 Hi-Tech Awards on Friday, winning the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Hi-Tech Company of the Decade Award.

The company also won the PwC Hi-Tech Company of the Year Award. Rakon designs and manufactures frequency control solutions and is headquartered in Auckland with manufacturing facilities in New Zealand, Europe, India and soon China.

The Hi-Tech Awards recognise excellence in New Zealand’s software, electronics, biotechnology, telecommunications and creative technology industries.

The Awards are judged by a panel of 48 local and 11 international judges including Dell founder Michael Dell, Cisco senior vice president Howard Charney, and World Economic Forum and the Strategic Management Society fellow Gary Hamel.

“You can build a great global company wherever you are,” said Cisco's Howard Charney at the Hi-Tech Awards. His advice is to aim for markets that are worth billions of dollars, surround yourself with people smarter than you are, and remember you will not have a successful company if you do not have successful customers.
