Orcon ready for mobile plunge

Three years after signing an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) deal with Vodafone, Orcon has unveiled its first mobile service.

Orcon launches locally with its own number range 020 – however customers can port their current number when joining. There are no fees and prices start at 39c per minute and 20c a text. Mobile phone data rates will cost ‘a dollar a day’ for 10MB or customers can buy a 1GB add-on for $49.95 a month.

Orcon CEO Scott Bartlett describes the plans as “competitive, but not the cheapest”, saying the real innovation is that the company offers customers post-pay without the contract. This means customers are billed for what they have used at the end of the month. Plans that bundle mobile and broadband services are in the pipeline.
