MSD to establish supplier panel

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is planning to appoint a supplier panel to help its IT infrastructure and services group.

The group is responsible for MSD’s server and storage infrastructure environment. This supports business and infrastructure applications, including standard office infrastructure services for MSD’s national office and about 240 local offices.

It has a highly virtualised environment with over 800 Unix and Microsoft servers. The consolidation and virtualisation also extends to storage and backup with the standardisation of storage technologies and a common SAN infrastructure that includes backup, 670TB of usable storage and 400 TB of data.

Contracts with current suppliers for hardware and software maintenance will soon expire and be replaced by a new panel.

MSD needs suppliers that are certified to provide services for HP, EMC, Oracle Sun Microsystems and Dell.

Tender documents state that respondents are encouraged to convey the value add they would bring to the panel rather than simply stepping into a business-as-usual environment.

The deadline for replies is Thursday, August 12.
