Xero finishes year with 3,000 customers

Wellington-based online accounting software provider Xero is finishing 2008 with 3,000 customers and by releasing a global version of its small business accounting product.

Localised versions of Xero are available for New Zealand, the UK and Australia. The global version provides a configurable sales tax engine, allowing virtually every small business in the world to use the service, Xero claims.

The global version of Xero is priced at US$29 a month.

Xero also appears to be making hay over rival MYOB's recent takeover, attributing its growth in part to "uncertainty among accountants and small businesses arising from the imminent private equity takeover and delisting of incumbent desktop software provider".

Xero listed on the NZX in June 2007. It's interim report (pdf) for the six months ended September 2008 shows reveue of $333,000, up 1,287% and a bottom line loss of $3.47 million.
