HP top ranking Q3 PC vendor across board

HP tops the local PC market rankings. It took each of the three ‘Top vendor’ positions in IDC New Zealand’s PC Market Summary for the third quarter of 2008, with number one positions in Desktop, Portable and X86 Server. Acer placed prominently, taking third position in the Desktop and Portable categories, and fourth in the X86 Server category.

For Desktops, Dell, Apple and Lenovo took places two, four and five in the top five respectively. Those positions were taken by Toshiba, Dell and Apple for Portables.

“Whilst portable shipments of 94,200 units still represent marginal growth of 1.9 percent,” says IDC, “desktops declined by 11.0 percent to 74,989 units following a strong second quarter.”

Consumer notebook shipments were up by 2.6 percent, while commercial notebooks grew only marginally by 1.0 percent. Total consumer shipments remained unchanged, with the 2.6 percent growth in notebooks offset by a 3.9 percent decline for consumer desktops.
