Yeah Yeah Yeahs say no, no, no to smartphones during their live concert

The war on smartphones at concerts and other live events seems unending.

The war on smartphones at concerts and other live events seems unending.

In the latest salvo, the art-punk trio called the Yeah Yeah Yeahs tried to keep smartphone-using fans at bay at a recent New York City Webster Hall concert, according to a report first carried by Spin and later the L.A. Times.

"Please do not watch the show through a screen on your smart device/camera," read the sign at the concert. "Put that...away as a courtesy to the person behind you and to [band members] Nick, Karen and Brian. Much love and many thanks! - Yeah Yeah Yeahs."

According to Spin, performer Karen O made the request during the concert at the top of the second song, and allowed the crowd to take photos for a few more minutes. Then she asked fans to put their devices away and gestured holstering a phone.

The concert went on for 16 songs, with what Spin reported were a few violators. The music website also tweeted about the sign and got a "massive and overwhelmingly" supportive response to the band's request.

There doesn't seem to be a regular policy for using smartphones and devices at live rock venues, although movie theatres and classical concert halls regularly warn smartphone users to shut off their devices and request users to leave if they continue to texting or otherwise use their devices.
