LINZ set to give public easier info

Service to improve process involved when buying and selling a house

Land Information New Zealand is embarking on a project to make it easier for members of the public to find and purchase land records online.

The planned service will streamline the process involved when people are considering buying or selling property, LINZ spokesperson Chas Te Runa says.

The project will deliver two online services: one allowing the public to find and purchase land records – such as property titles – automatically and instantly, and the other providing a business-to-business web interface through which land search businesses can provide records to their customers.

“LINZ oversees and records all changes in land ownership and interests in New Zealand, and ensures we can have confidence in our property rights. Providing easier access to this information gives New Zealanders greater certainty and understanding of their property rights,” says Russell Turner, Linz’s acting general manager of customer services.

The business-to-business web interface is intended to allow land record search businesses to connect directly with LINZ’s survey and title record delivery system. LINZ is inviting such businesses, as “valued partners”, as well as others in the industry, to be involved in the development of the business-to-business web service.

The new planned service builds on the establishment of the LINZ Data Service two years ago. “This initiative is an example of LINZ continuing to take a lead role in delivering on the Government’s objective of opening up public access to government-held data,” Turner says.

The new service is scheduled to be operational by the end of this year.
