Turner to join Linz

MetService CIO makes move

Longtime MetService CIO Russell Turner has been appointed to the same role at Land Information New Zealand.

He officially takes up the Linz role in the new year.

Turner's time as MetService CIO has seen a number of milestones, including launching a web-based service for the organisation's aviation industry customers last year, overseeing a move of its servers to a new datacentre in 2007 and more recently, upgrading the MetService's three-dimensional computer model of New Zealand's weather.

Another initiative he oversaw was an upgrade to Oracle's 11g database; the MetService was the first local organisation to implement 11g.

Turner has been CIO at the MetService since 2005 and manages a team of 56.
