Gen-i awarded datacentre contract with Air New Zealand

New Tier 3 datacentre contract goes to Gen-i after selection process

Gen-i has been awarded a contract to design, deliver and support an additional datacentre and extra network infrastructure for Air New Zealand.

The new datacentre will add to the existing one, in Newton, Auckland, through which Gen-i provides telecommunications services to Air New Zealand.

The new datacentre, located at Airedale St, will be used to host the airline's IT infrastructure, a media release from Gen-i says.

The new datacentre will form part of Gen-i's existing datacentre complex at the site, which interconnects with Telecom’s main Mayoral Drive exchange.

The Gen-i statement continues: "Air New Zealand has selected the facility at Airedale Street as a replacement for its current secondary datacentre on Nelson Street. The airline will continue to use the Newton datacentre."

The Newton datacentre, owned by Air New Zealand but from which IBM provides hosting services to the airline, experienced a serious outage in October last year.

The Gen-i statement continues: "The new facility features highly seismic-rated buildings, a highly resilient infrastructure design, environmental monitoring and physical security, while Gen-i’s services include 24x7x365 management processes.

"As part of its selection process, Air New Zealand engaged international datacentre design specialists AECOM to analyse and advise on the Tier 3 data centre designs of the shortlisted providers."
