Microsoft is set to claim another win for its SharePoint software, with the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) preparing to redevelop its intranet using the technology — and to get rid of its current interim IBM Workplace Web Content Management platform. NZTA was created on 1 August 2008 by combining Transit New Zealand and Land Transport New Zealand. An interim intranet was created to provide information to the new organisation and to legacy intranets. The intranet, known as OnRamp, was developed as a temporary solution, a tender released today says. OnRamp did not deliver an effective intranet design and information architecture or the tools needed by NZTA. "It is based on the IBM IWWCM software, which is no longer deemed suitable for NZTA to use to support any of its websites," the tender says. NZTA has now defined specifications for the new intranet and decided to use Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) as the software platform.
The redevelopment aims to create a new, collaborative site that will help the NZTA staff in everyday tasks and improve communication within the business.
The objectives of the project include: — To create a user-friendly, easy to navigate site that users will want to use; — To create a site that is flexible to allow for future developments and low levels of web team administration — To consolidate, verify and migrate content from legacy sites.
Integration of Active Directory is part of the intranet project delivery. Consolidation of legacy content will be done by NZTA staff.
