Cisco buys hosted security vendor

Vendor's shopping spree continues

Cisco Systems has announced plans to acquire rising security-as-a-service provider Scansafe.

The size of the deal has been estimated at US$183 million (NZ$254 million). It is expected to close by the end of the year.

"With the acquisition of ScanSafe, Cisco is executing on our vision to build a borderless network security architecture that combines network and cloud-based services for advanced security enforcement," says Cisco security vice president, Tom Gillis.

The acquisition is the third for Cisco in recent months, following on from the buy of IP-based mobile infrastructure specialist Starent, and yet-to-be-confirmed buy of videoconferencing vendor Tandberg.
