Consumer hard-drive maker Western Digital has announced it is entering the market for enterprise-class datacentre drives with its first serial-attached SCSI (SAS) hard disk product.
The WD S25 is a 10,000 rpm, 2.5-inch, hard drive that has up to 300GB capacity. It is aimed at high-I/O performance applications in enterprise servers and enterprise storage applications.
The WD S25 has both 3Gbit/s and 6 Gbit/s SAS interfaces and a sustained sequential data read rate of 128 MB/s and a 1.6 million-hour mean time between failures rating.
"Our entry into the traditional-enterprise market continues the strategic expansion and diversification of WD's broad market and product portfolio," says Western Digital CEO John Coyne.
