Massey University is seeking a new CIO, following the resignation of Gerrit Bahlman, who is leaving the university to take up the role of director of IT at Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Bahlman has been at Massey for 20 years, starting as MIS director in 1989 and becoming director of IT in 1993. He served a two-year secondment as assistant vice chancellor for internationalisation in 2002-03 before returning to the director of IT role. He became Massey’s inaugural CIO when the CIO position was established in 2004.
He says his decision to move on from Massey is “about a time of life — my kids have left home, and are overseas at university.
“This is the right time to do something new and different”.
Massey University is the ninth largest user of ICT in New Zealand, according to the MIS 100 list. It employs 120 IS staff and has campuses in Palmerston North, Wellington and Auckland.
