Eric Krieger says McAfee acquisition was unexpected

Secure Computing ANZ country manager Eric Krieger has left the company in the wake of its acquisition by McAfee.

"With the successful acquisition of Secure Computing by market leader McAfee, I have relinquished my role as ANZ country manager," Krieger told colleagues in an email message.

McAfee announced it would pay $US465 million for Secure Computing in September.

At the time of the announcement, Krieger said it had come "out of the blue".

Nevertheless, the move made sense, as Secure Computing's enterprise customer base would complement McAfee's small-to-medium business and consumer focus, he said at the time.

Australian Secure Computing customers include Optus and the Australian Taxation Office, as well as customers in the banking sector. The company employs approximately 50 people locally.

Krieger worked for Secure Computing for eight years, having previously been regional sales director.

"The immense growth in the government and corporate sectors have been personal standouts," he said of his time at the company.

Krieger said he planned to travel, spend time with his family and look for new roles during the coming year.
