Ultrafast Fibre signs Huawei as technology partner

Huawei to deploy layer one and two solutions for central North Island LFC

Ultrafast Fibre has signed Huawei New Zealand as its technology partner, the company has announced.

Ultrafast Fibre (UFL) is a company created by WEL Networks, the lines company that is partnering with Crown Fibre Networks to deliver the Ultra Fast Broadband network in Hamilton, Tauranga, Tokoroa, New Plymouth, Hawera, Wanganui, Te Awamutu and Cambridge.

UFL chief executive Julian Elder says Huawei was chosen because of its “professional approach and strong performance throughout the selection process.”

Huawei NZ chief executive Arthur Zhang says the company is proud to be working with UFL. “This is a highly significant development for Huawei and the rollout of ultrafast broadband in New Zealand.”

Huawei will supply UFL with layer one and open access layer two network solutions, and will deploy both Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) and Gigabit Point to Point Ethernet technology.

The network can be upgraded to higher speed 10G XPON technology in the future.
