Northern Territory rolls out Jade for health

The system is an extension to the Jade Patient Administration System already in operation in several hospitals

Australia’s Northern Territory Department of Health and Families has rolled out a patient-centric, integrated health management system based on Jade software.

The system was several years in the planning and a year in development. It is an extension to the Jade Patient Administration System already in operation in several hospitals, and joins the Jade Clinical Work Station System deployed late last year, and the Jade Coordinated Care Out-patient Management System which has been running for several years.

Department of Health chief information officer Stephen Moo says the operating theatre module is a state-of-the-art business intelligence system that supports the work of medical professionals by managing one of the most valuable, expensive and rarest resources in a health system: operating theatre time.

“The complex data model, scheduling and reporting requirements made this a demanding project for our users to specify,” he says. “Its development was made possible by tight project management and deep domain knowledge of both parties working on the project.”

Jade managing director Rod Carr describes the project as an example of a highly collaborative development in which the users of the systems knew their business well, had a vision of how new systems could support their business goals, and worked closely with Jade professionals to scope, design, build, test, deploy and support the new functionality.

Jade sold the IP in its health applications of Ascribe PLC in 2005 but continues to undertake development and support of them, especially in the UK and Australia.
