Gen-i wins Govt Apple products procurement contract

Updated: Cyclone Computers named as second supplier of iPads, Macs and other gear

Gen-i has announced that it has been appointed as one of two suppliers of Apple laptops, desktops and tablets for the All-of-Government laptop and desktop computer procurement panel.

The other is Cyclone Computers.

The Apple products covered by the agreement comprise the iPad, iMac, Mac Mini, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air range.

In a statement from Gen-i, Greg Mikkelsen, GM Enterprise Clients, says: "“We understand the unique requirements of government which is why we’re continually finding new ways to drive innovation, deliver greater efficiencies and cut costs.

“Our extensive procurement skills and in-depth knowledge of the government sector, combined with Apple’s outstanding product range, means that the Government can reduce the costs of procuring these Apple products. The iPad in particular has seen wide interest in the government sector, particularly education, and it’s fantastic to make this product more accessible."

Computerworld has asked the Internal Affairs department, which administers the All-of-Government procurement contracts, who the other supplier is. An Internal Affairs spokesperson said that at this stage, the other supplier can't be named.

The announcement from Gen-i comes the same day that Dimension Data announced it has won a five-year managed services contract with Genesis Energy, replacing Gen-i.
