Auckland Council seeks social media monitor

Tender for media monitoring services expanded to include social media

The Auckland Council has acknowledged the rise of Facebook and Twitter in a tender for media monitoring services, calling for monitoring of social media as well as traditional print, radio and television.

The tender, which closes on October 5, is the first media monitoring contract that the newly-merged Auckland Council has held. Previously, the eight councils that were combined last year to form the Council had their own media mentoring arrangements.

There are five categories in the tender - print, radio and television; social media; Non-English ethnic media (excluding Maori); and Te Reo Maori.

The tender documents call for applicants to “extend coverage to growing categories such as social media” and “provide up-to-date information on any subject-matter relating to the Council through social media channels.”

A supplier may choose to apply for one, or a number, or all categories, the documents note.
