Telecom appoints retail CEO

New transformation officer also named to executive team

Telecom has announced two new appointments to its senior executive team.

Alan Gourdie has been appointed as CEO Retail and Frank Mount has been appointed as Telecom's group chief transformation officer.

Earlier this month, Simon Moutter, one-time chief operating officer of Telecom under Theresa Gattung, resigned from the company to take a CEO role at Auckland International Airport. He was acting CEO Retail and chief transformation officer-designate.

Gourdie, a Kiwi, has extensive international experience in managing consumer brands, mainly in the brewing business, but previously in pharmaceuticals.

He joined DB Group as general manager marketing for wines and spirits in 1994 and then in 1998 was promoted to general manager marketing for the brewing business.

In early 2001 he was transferred to Amsterdam to take up the role of global marketing manager of Heineken. He then moved to sister company Asia Pacific Breweries as general manager of its Singapore operation.

This year, he was appointed managing director of APB's UK and European operations.

Mount is more of a telecommunications old hand. He began his career with AT&T and spent 20 years working in various roles for the company. He has been executive vice president and chief technology officer for Viatel and held similar senior roles with Primus Communications, US Cable and MCI Telecommunications.

He also held the CTO position at T-Mobile UK and then led the company's European operations, with responsibility for all network operations outside North America.

He worked at Cable & Wireless from November 2004 to December 2007 as director group operations, group CTO, and CTO Cable & Wireless International. He also served as a member on the Boards of the International Company and Cable & Wireless Jamaica.
