Enable Local Fibre Co appoints chair

Ex-Meridian CEO to head UFB deployment in Christchurch

Former Meridian Energy CEO Tim Lusk has been appointed chair of Enable Networks, the Local Fibre Company formed to deploy Ultra Fast Broadband in Christchurch and Rangiora.

Enable is a joint partnership between Christchurch City Networks and Crown Fibre Holdings (the government agency administering the UFB), that has been formed to deploy fibre in Canterbury at an initial ten-year cost of $440 million.

Lusk has also held senior executive positions in Transpower and Telecom.

“His background in managing substantial infrastructure projects and as a key player in wholesale and retail utilities markets makes Mr Lusk an excellent Chair,” says Christchurch City Networks chairman Bill Luff.

Lusk says he is looking forward to making a positive contribution to the city.

“This is an exciting appointment, at a time when Christchurch is on the threshold of change.”

It is understood that Chorus, which won 70 percent of the UFB build, is currently seeking a joint venture with Enable in Canterbury.
