Customs signs Joint Border Management System contract with IBM

Big Blue picked for project that will integrate Customs and MAF systems

As signalled by Computerworld yesterday, the NZ Customs Service has signed a contract with IBM for a Joint Border Management System.

The new system will bring together Customs' Cusmod system and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's Quantum system.

The project got a $75 million allocation in last month's budget for the first stage; a statement from Customs announcing the IBM deal notes: "Stage one will include what is called the Single Trade Window (STW). Ultimately, TSW will enable exporters, importers and others involved in trade to complete all their border compliance requirements online, through a single point of electronic contact."

IBM global business services NZ managing partner Kerrie McGrath says in the statement: "We bring to this project our specialist expertise in risk and intelligence analysis, and our proven experience in customs and border management.

"This is combined with the consulting and delivery capabilities of our local team and our partner Datacom."
