Xero secures Google App Store presence

Cloud-based accounting package now available through Google App and Chrome Web stores

Xero has announced that its hosted accounting software is now available from the Google App Store and Google Chrome Web Store.

In a statement on the NZX website, Xero notes: "Xero’s listing in the Google App Store was made possible this week after releasing single sign-on integration with Google. This enables small business to seamlessly navigate between a number of cloud applications, such as Google Docs and Xero, without having to sign-in multiple times.

"Google today has launched the Chromebook — a laptop with an operating system based around the popular and fast Chrome web browser. The Chromebook is the first mainstream device where all the programs reside in the cloud, and represents an important milestone in the computing industry. Chromebooks are not yet available in New Zealand.

"The Chrome Web Store is the main mechanism for Google to market cloud based products to Chromebook users. Both Xero Business and Xero Personal are listed in the Chrome Web Store.

"The Google stores provide another significant sales avenue for Xero globally, and completes another deliverable in the company’s US entry strategy." Opinion on the Chromebook by commentators is divided: some persepectives can be found here and here.
