Waikato DHB dumps Novell for Microsoft

Waikato DHB is seeking organisations with a track record of successful Microsoft implementations

Waikato District Health Board looks set to install a new electronic messaging and file management system in the latter half of 2008.

The DHB has already announced it will dump its current Novell Netware and GroupWise authentication, email, calendaring, scheduling, task management and personal address books in favour of Microsoft Exchange and Outlook.

Tenders were sought about a month ago, with a November 23 deadline being set for Expressions of Interest.

Waikato DHB is seeking organisations with a track record of successful Microsoft implementations and membership of the Microsoft-certified Partner Programme, who also have suitably accredited Microsoft technical resources.

The Hamilton-based public health body says the migration project will include technical services, data-migration, deployment management, technical and operational support training, and documentation, as well as extensive post-implementation support.

CIO Alan Grainer told Computerworld this week that the DHB is “currently completing a request for proposal process” so further comment would be “commercially inappropriate”.

However, Grainer did say he would be able to “discuss all aspects of this initiative, post the conclusion of the market process” and he “looked forward” to this happening sometime in mid-2008.

The Waikato DHB is one of the largest DHBs in New Zealand.

It operates out of a number of locations, including the Waikato Hospital campus, Thames Hospital, Taumarunui Hospital, Te Kuiti Hospital, Matariki Hospital (Te Awamutu) and Rhoda Read (Morrinsville).
