Symantec is believed to be planning to acquire Vontu, one the largest remaining independent providers of DLP (data leakage prevention) software.
The deal gives Symantec a foothold in the burgeoning DLP segment, also referred by some as ILP (information leakage prevention).
The two companies already maintain an OEM business partnership, through which Symantec markets Vontu's DLP technologies to its customers.
Symantec is understood to be paying US$300-$350 (NZ$400-468 million) for privately-held Vontu.
McAfee, Symantec's closest rival, recently announced plans to acquire encryption and device access control specialist SafeBoot.
