New Zealand-based network probe developer Endace has bought US-based Applied Watch Technologies for US$5 million.
Applied Watch, based in Illinois, USA, develops centralised management tools for open source software and provides managed security services. Its products are designed to ease the deployment of open source security applications, including intrusion detection, anti-virus and vulnerability scanning tools.
Endace, which is listed on the UK AIM market, says the software is installed in numerous networks in Fortune 500 companies, ISPs, US Federal and military installations among others.
"The acquisition of Applied Watch is consistent with Endace’s expressed strategy of delivering complete security and monitoring solutions to key vertical markets that include telcos, governments and financial services organisations," Endace says in a statement.
The company says the buy will provide new revenue streams and cross-selling opportunities and deliver a 24-hour operations centre in Chicago.
Applied Watch lost US$112,000 on revenues of US$1.5 million in the year to December 2006.
