The State Services Commission's authentication programme has collected a global Identity Deployment of the Year award.
The awards, one of four from global identity consortium Liberty Alliance, were announced at Digital ID World 2007.
The programme provides for authoritative sources of data held across government to be made available to people and businesses in their online interactions with agencies, says Hugh McPhail, SSC's acting branch manager information and communication technologies.
It allows New Zealanders and organisations accessing government services online to request and control the sending of authoritative information rather than obtaining and submitting paper documents.
And that means quicker and more consistent government services and entitlement decisions and reduced compliance costs for businesses, the SSC says.
“It is very satisfying to see the work of the All-of-government Authentication Programme being recognised internationally,” McPhail says.
