Toshiba makes HDTV move

Wireless high definition streaming coming

Toshiba is working on a new wireless technology for streaming high-definition television around the home.

The company is developing a wireless communications standard that operates at a rate of over 1Gbit/s on the 60GHz band.

This wavelength — dubbed the 'millimeter waveband' — is deployed in Japan, Europe and the US.

This iteration of wireless runs at a higher speed even than the still-unratified 802.11n standard.

Toshiba unveiled the technology on June 15 at the 2007 Symposia on VLSI Circuits, in Kyoto, Japan.
