Ricoh remains committed to Christchurch: MD

Company operating out of warehouse until CBD premises available

Ricoh New Zealand managing director Mike Pollok says the company is committed to retaining its operations in Christchurch.

Pollok visited the quake-stricken city on Monday and, in a statement from the company, says “Thankfully, no Ricoh staff were badly injured in the earthquake, but a number of our colleagues and their families have suffered tremendous trauma.”

Ricoh’s two Christchurch buildings are inside the CBD cordon, but appear to have escaped major damage. However, until these buildings can be used again, office-based staff are working from a colleague’s house and an additional warehouse has been secured, the statement says.

The company has donated $200,000 to the Red Cross Christchurch Earthquake appeal; the donation includes contributions from the global and Asia-Pacific businesses, as well as New Zealand.

It has also set up a fund for staff to donate from their payroll, and will match every $1 donated by staff with a $3 donation.

Priority is being given to Ricoh customers in the essential services field, Pollok says.

“Demand for technical support is starting to increase as people turn their attention back to getting businesses up and running. Plans are in place to be able to deliver additional customer support, if required," he says.

InternetNZ has also made a donation, of $50,000, to the Red Cross fund.
