Broadband subscriptions in New Zealand increased by nearly 30% in the six months ended 30 September 2006, according to Statistics New Zealand.
There are now 1.4 million internet subscribers in New Zealand. Dial-up connections fell by 5.1% from the end of March 2006 while broadband numbers lifted from 9 in every 100 people to 14.7.
97.6% of subscribers have a data cap on their plans, however, and two thirds have a cap less than 5GB.
Statistics NZ also reports regulatory issues have diminished as a concern for local internet service providers. 34% fewer reported the regulatory environment had been a barrier to growth.
