Storage budgets stretched, says report

Keeping up with growing demand is a challenge, respondents say

Although demand for more storage capacity is a continuing problem for small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs), only about 37% of companies recently surveyed by Gartner plan to increase spending on the technology in 2007.

Gartner asked more than 1,100 respondents globally about their 2007 budget plans for storage hardware, software or services.

Fifty-five percent of the ICT managers surveyed say their biggest storage challenge is keeping up with growing demand.

However, little more than a third expect budgets to increase to meet that demand.

On the bright side, most storage budgets won’t shrink. Seventy per cent of respondents say their storage spending will “increase or remain the same” next year.
