Website aims to stop addicts fading away, with better info

FADE is a CWEA finalist in the category use of IT in a not-for-profit organisation

A year ago, the Foundation for Alcohol and Drug Education (FADE) launched a new website, as part of an initiative to communicate more effectively with the wider community.

FADE provides education, training and resources aimed at preventing alcohol and drug-related harm.

FADE’s website offers easily accessible information for the five “FADE-identified communities”. These include teaching and education; young people; industry; parents and caregivers and sports. FADE has also developed an interactive, online learning tool to help people better understand the types of drugs available in New Zealand.

All this means FADE is now able to post forthcoming workshops on its website, and participants can register and pay online. In addition, visitors can browse through the resources FADE has available and, if they wish, buy material online, either by credit card or via an electronic invoice.

FADE also sends out a monthly e-newsletter; regularly updates its website with relevant information and provides an online discussion forum where people can talk about alcohol and drugs. This means users can easily access relevant information and post anonymous questions to FADE consultants or other forum users.

It is these website features that are enabling FADE to reach out to people, it says, and so have a greater impact on the community.
