Reach under new management

Changeover causing network outages

Wi-fi network provider Reach Wireless is under new management says the company’s owner Craig Foss, who is also the National MP for Tukituki.

Auckland company CyberCom is now managing operations at Reach Wireless which is owned by Foss through his company Magpie Investments.

The MP, who was elected to parliament last year, is a director of Reach Wireless and also holds an interest in Hawke’s Bay wireless ISP Airnet.

The change of management may lead to Reach Wireless being re-branded, but Foss says that for all intents and purposes, the wireless provider is here to stay and that it is business as usual for customers.

However, the management changeover caused problems for some customers, as a new billing back-end system was implemented.

There were also some network outages during the transition period, according to Foss.

CyberCom manager Marvin Yee says that Reach is upgrading its network and due to this, some outages are unavoidable.

Yee says Reach will honour all its client commitments and will reimburse customers for unsatisfactory service if necessary.

He asks customers who feel that their service has been affected to contact the Reach helpdesk in the first instance.

Reach Wireless began life in 2003 but it wasn’t until it bought RoamAD’s central Auckland wi-fi network that the company began to make a name for itself. RoamAD had decided to refocus its efforts on the software side of the business and sold off its wi-fi network to Reach for an undisclosed sum. RoamAD has since secured numerous deals to sell its software to wi-fi network operators like Reach in a number of different countries around the world.
