Oz PeopleSoft partner buy prompts NZ speculation

Red Rock would buy if it saw an opportunity here

Australian Oracle partner Red Rock Consulting is looking to expand its PeopleSoft support business in New Zealand, but there are no immediate plans for an acquisition along the lines of Red Rock's purchase of Australian PeopleSoft partner BML, Red Rock director Jonathan Rubinsztein says.

"Our intention is to grow our New Zealand business, but whether we need to acquire depends on opportunities — if we saw an apparent opportunity, we'd acquire," he says.

There is precedent for a Red Rock acquisition in New Zealand. UXC, Red Rock's parent company, bought Wellington-based Oracle specialist Sequel Software in December, a move Rubinsztein says is paying dividends.

"Sequel is growing and we're recruiting staff at the moment," he says.

Sequel's New Zealand customers include Telecom, Transpower, the Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Health.

In an announcement posted on the Australian Stock Exchange when Red Rock bought BML, UXC business solutions group head Cris Nicolli is quoted as saying "BML follows Red Rock's recent acquisition of Sequel New Zealand to further extend its strength in the Oracle technology stack, providing Oracle application, development and database skills and now, PeopleSoft application and consulting skills."

The acquisition has caused speculation in Australia that there may be further consolidation in the Orace and PeopleSoft partner space.
