Is HP exiting NZ health sector?

Selling existing contracts to iSoft

Health software vendor iSoft is seeking Commerce Commission approval to buy five Hewlett-Packard customer contracts for the provision of software support services, and the associated goodwill and intellectual property rights in the Homer and OraCare software.

The five customer contracts are with Healthcare Otago, Good Health Wanganui, Nelson Marlborough Health Services, Midcentral Health and Canterbury Health.

ISoft has owned the software products in Australia for the past three years, where they are called Topaz.

The pending purchase indicates a move away from application-based health solutions by Hewlett-Packard.

iSoft, which was recently incorporated in New Zealand, will service the legacy technology at the five sites till they eventually go to open tender for replacement patient management software. Half of the country’s 21 district health boards are expected to go to tender within the next three years.

The commission is expected to take around six weeks to reach a decision.

In another health deal, Wise Management Services has selected Axon Waikato to upgrade IT infrastructure that underpins provision of the country’s mental health services.

Wise provides and manages IT infrastructure for three government-funded charitable trusts that provide national mental health-related services.

Martin Parrish, manager information planning and services, says Wise will implement a range of new products as warranties on infrastructure expire.

“Axon will add a significant number of new users to our Citrix environment, which connects our services to a large number of sites run by our customers,” he says. “Axon will also upgrade our server room, add clients to our core network, and establish a non-core network.”
