Quotable Value dumps HP for IBM

Concerns over service cited

Quotable Value New Zealand has severed a 14-year relationship with Hewlett-Packard over lack of service and moved the account to IBM.

Earlier this year, it cited service concerns when it dropped HP storage for HDS.

“It was all about service,” says general manager information technology Bryce Johnson. “We have no confidence in HP. We couldn’t get attention and our issues resolved.

“I tried hard to get focus and took it to Simon Tong when he was acting country manager but got no response.”

Quotable Value has begun buying blades from IBM as well as a four-processor database server, and two dual-CPU servers. It has also bought around 50 PCs and will continue to buy more this year.

It appears the service issue with HP arose over something as simple as a tape drive.

HP enterprise and corporate marketing manager Jeff Healey says HP was working towards resolution over a specific tape drive and appreciates that it didn’t resolve the problem in the manner Quotable Value wanted.

“Sometimes these issues become a little complex,” he says. “We’ve taken on board Quotable Value’s concerns but the decision was extremely disappointing,” Healey says.
