IRD sees beyond IBM, SolNet and others for EAI

SeeBeyond chosen from a large list

Inland Revenue has selected SeeBeyond to provide the enterprise application platform that will underpin its upcoming enterprise technical architecture.

The ETA will include a standard operating environment to simplify the implementation and distribution of applications across the IRD. SeeBeyond NZ's general manager, Rob Erskine, says the SeeBeyond ICAN 5 suite selected by Inland Revenue will help it integrate legacy systems with off-the-shelf products.

IRD is focusing more on shrinkwrapped products and is tailoring its central, mainframe-based First system to process core tax administration functions, with the off-the-shelf products running associated business processes.

According to a statement from IRD, SeeBeyond was selected because its enterprise application integration (EAI) products "demonstrated greater product maturity and are well integrated".

That EAI is SeeBeyond's core business and it provided "more favourable and flexible cost models allowing Inland Revenue to grow the products on an as-need basis," also helped swing the tender SeeBeyond's way.

The tender drew many responses including bids from Iona, Vignette, an SAP-Deloitte partnership, EDS, WebMethods, Microsoft, BEA, Mercator, Sybase, Novell, SolNet and IBM as well as SeeBeyond.

SeeBeyond, IBM and SolNet made the shortlist before SeeBeyond was selected, says the IRD.

The department is set to have a busy year IT-wise, with several other major projects in the pipeline, including a tender for a case management system and an analytics project which has a pilot underway conducted by Datamine.
