Stats picks content manager

Datacom will provide Statistics NZ’s new content management system.

Statistics NZ last year put out a tender to replace its aging system, which stores legacy documents and components mainly in structured form in many Lotus Notes databases.

The tender called for the new system to recognise content as components rather than documents and hold it in a non-proprietary format.

The $350,000 Datacom system covers software, hardware, customisation, implementation and training. It is the first part of a two-step process to create an integrated publishing environment at Statistics NZ’s, allowing it to handle both print and web-based publishing.

The second part of the project, which involves installing a new information architecture, is being done inhouse, in conjunction with the content management system implementation.

Statistics NZ is moving more towards disseminating material such as newsletters, departmental and analytical reports, educational resources and technical documentation over the web.

Last year, then project manager Jocelyn Young told Computerworld the aim was to remove some of the manual processes involved in translating print-designed material to the web.

Current project manager Gareth McGuinness says the Datacom system is scheduled to go live in the third quarter of the year.
