Lucent Technologies this week said it was awarded a multiyear contract to supply AT&T with metro SONET systems.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Lucent says the amount of revenue is "significant."
AT&T is installing Lucent's Metropolis DMX Access Multiplexer in central offices and Metropolis DMXtend Access Multiplexer for enterprise and loop access applications. Both are designed to increase network capacity and enable new services, such as Ethernet-over-SONET.
Lucent Worldwide Services, the professional services arm of Lucent, is also providing program management, engineering and installation of the systems.
Lucent says it has more than 70 Metropolis DMX customers worldwide.
