- NTT DoCoMo, Japan's leading cellular provider, and computer and printer maker Hewlett-Packard (HP) have said they will conduct joint research to develop improved multimedia delivery and network applications for fourth generation (4G) wireless broadband networks.
The two companies will develop a new 4G multimedia architecture and call it MOTO-Media, the companies said in a statement. The architecture is expected to allow high-performance streaming of multimedia content to mobile users.
Under the joint effort, the study of basic technology for the architecture is expected to be completed by 2003. In May 2001, NTT DoCoMo will release its third generation (3G) phones in Japan. The technology behind 3G is expected to offer users faster data transmission and improved sound and video capabilities.
